Titanium and titanium alloys have developed into promising metal structural materials in the modern aerospace industry due to their outstanding advantages such as high specific strength, good corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance. Since the United States applied Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy bolts to B-52 bombers in the 1950s and achieved excellent weight reduction results, various aviation industry developed countries have launched research and engineering applications of titanium alloy fasteners.



After replacing most steel fasteners with lower specific strength with titanium alloy fasteners, significant results have been achieved in the weight reduction area of aircraft. After replacing steel with titanium in the fasteners of Boeing 747 aircraft, its structural weight has been reduced by 1814KG; The Il-96 aircraft in Russia uses 142000 titanium alloy fasteners, which reduces its weight by up to 600KG compared to steel components. The positive potential performance of titanium alloy precisely matches that of carbon fiber composite materials, effectively preventing galvanic corrosion of fasteners, making titanium alloy a connecting material for composite materials.



Therefore, with the increasing usage of titanium alloys and composite materials in advanced military aircraft, the demand for titanium alloy fasteners is increasing. Titanium alloy has a usage temperature 150~200 ℃ higher than aluminum alloy. For areas in aircraft structures where aluminum alloy fasteners cannot be used due to excessive temperature, titanium alloy will be a better choice. In addition, the inherent good elasticity and non magnetism of titanium alloy play a very important role in preventing the loosening of captive bolts and preventing magnetic field interference.



In recent years, with the development of China's aerospace industry, relevant domestic units have carried out a large amount of targeted research and development work in the manufacturing technology of basic materials and fasteners. Currently, titanium alloy fasteners independently developed and produced in China have been widely applied in modified and newly designed aircraft in China. With the rapid development of China's aviation industry and the continuous improvement of aircraft performance requirements, the manufacturing of titanium alloy materials for high-performance aviation fasteners in the future requires higher strength, fracture toughness, and fatigue performance.
